Software Drivers

Compaq and Hewlett Packard merged.  This means that all the software drivers for these laptops are located at www.hp.com .  Use the support link on the home page.  They make it pretty easy to get the drivers for any of their laptops.  Simply have your model number ready.  Do a search and you should have plenty of downloads to check on. 

Multiple software drivers available

Unfortunately, Compaq laptops tend to have a variety of different drivers for the various components depending on when the laptop was made.  You almost have to use trial and error to determine the correct driver to use.  Making a direct call to the tech support phone number is basically a waste of time.  I have found that the technician barely speaks English.

Another alternative.

If you are persistent you can get the restore disk for your particular model laptop.  You will however have to pay for it.  But in the case of the compaq laptops, especially the Presario model, you will find it to be a better alternative.  In fact, the Presario model software drivers are not even listed for download.

The Hewlett Packard laptops however are all available online and I have found very little trouble locating and loading those software drivers.

All in all this is a very easy site to navigate when compared to the other manufacturers websites.
